When your solar panels generate electricity, it powers your load, with any shortfall covered by the grid. Excess energy charges the battery, and once full, it flows to the grid unaccounted for without net metering. To benefit from excess generation, apply for net metering through your local DISCO or provider. A “Bi-Directional” meter will then record surplus energy and credit it to your monthly bill.
